Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is an autoimmune disease characterized by thrombocytopenia due to the presence of platelet autoantibodies specific for platelet membrane glycoproteins, such as GPIIb/IIIa, GPIb/IX and GPIa/IIa.
