Hereditary pheochromocytomas (pheo) and paragangliomas (pgl) are caused by identifiable germline mutations. The previously well-known associated syndromes include neurofibromatosis type 1, multiple endocrine neoplasia 2 A and B, and von Hippel-Lindau syndrome.
