Dextromethorphan (DM) is a non-competitive N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist that may be neuroprotective for monoamine neurons. We hypothesized that adding DM to valproate (VPA) treatment would attenuate bipolar disorder (BP) symptoms.
