AMPA receptor subunits (GluA1-4) are trafficked to membrane synaptic sites by transmembrane AMPA receptor regulatory proteins (TARPs). In the stargazer mutant mouse, expression of TARP-γ2 (stargazin) is severely reduced, resulting in cerebellar ataxia.
