Abstract excerpt
Treatment with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) is known to improve survival in various cancers. The largest impact of the drug has been reported in colorectal cancer [1]. Active metabolites of 5-FU disrupt both DNA and RNA synthesis through a mechanism involving the folate metabolic pathway [2–4].
