DNA polymerase beta (pol β), the error-prone polymerase of base excision repair, plays a significant role in chemotherapeutic agent resistance. Its over expression reduces the efficacy of anticancer drug therapies including ionizing radiation, bleomycin, monofunctional alkylating agents and cisplatin.
