It has been recently reported that, in Xenopus oocytes injected with the mRNA for human renin, this secretory renal glycoprotein acquires phosphomannosyl residues on its asparagine-linked oligosaccharide chains, remains intracellular and undergoes a proteolytic cleavage which removes the prosegment.
