BACKGROUND: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is an inherited autosomal dominant trait in cats. The A31P single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the myosin binding protein C 3 gene is thought to be the causative mutation in Maine Coon cats.
