Canine diabetes mellitus (DM) shares many similarities with human type 1 diabetes (T1D). It is a complex genetic disorder, which shows marked differences in breed susceptibility, with Samoyed dogs being highly susceptible, whereas the Boxer breed is relatively resistant.
