The "yellow" mutation at the mouse agouti locus (A(y)/a-mice) results in obesity and type 2 diabetes. Maternal obesity in A(y)-mice impaired glucose tolerance in adult Agouti-negative offspring. Changes of hormone pattern during pregnancy and lactation are known to disregulate glucose metabolism in the adult progeny.
