BACKGROUND: The dishevelled and axin genes encode multi-domain proteins that play key roles in WNT signalling. Dishevelled prevents beta-catenin degradation by interfering with the interaction of beta-catenin with the degradation-mediating Axin-APC-GSK3beta complex.
