OBJECTIVE: Areca use is the major cause for oral squamous cell carcinoma and oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) in South Asians. Lysyl oxidase (LOX) is a copper-activated enzyme critical for collagen cross-linking and organization of extracellular matrix.
