A study was made of the function of the Drosophila melanogaster TRF2 protein. Expression analysis of the trf2(P1) mutation implicated TRF2 in the D. melanogaster embryo development. High-level expression of the trf2 gene was observed in female germline cells. A high level of TRF2 was detected in primary spermatocytes and trophocytes, characterized by intense transcription.
