Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is important mediator of angiogenesis, and its expression in colorectal tumors is related to tumor progression. VEGF expression has been detected in normal mucosa, primary colon cancers, and metastatic tumors, and patients with low VEGF expression have a better survival rate.
