Cysteine 14 is an interface residue that is fundamental for the catalysis and stability of homodimeric triosephosphate isomerase from Trypanosoma brucei (TbTIM). Its side chain is surrounded by a deep pocket of 11 residues that are part of loop 3 of the adjacent monomer.
