Frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD) with mutations in the tau gene (MAPT) causes familial frontotemporal dementia with tau pathology. Many of these mutations result in morphological phenotypes resembling sporadic tauopathies, although, to date, no such cases mimicking argyrophilic grain disease (AgD) have been documented.
