For most aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (aaRS), their cognate tRNA is not obligatory to catalyze amino acid activation, with the exception of four class I (aaRS): arginyl-tRNA synthetase, glutamyl-tRNA synthetase, glutaminyl-tRNA synthetase and class I lysyl-tRNA synthetase.
