Adiponectin plays an important role in insulin sensitivity via adiponectin receptor 1 and 2 signalling. To date, six genetic association studies have examined the role of polymorphisms in the adiponectin receptor 1 and 2 genes (ADIPOR1 and ADIPOR2) in insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
