BACKGROUND: Depression is thought to involve, in part, dysregulation of serotonergic neurotransmission. In depressed individuals, the number of serotonin receptors, including the 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin)-1A (5-HT(1A)) autoreceptors, are increased.
