Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is abundantly produced by glioma cells especially glioblastoma, the most malignant form of astrocytoma. VEGF, a well known angiogenic factor, acts in a paracrine fashion on endothelial cells to develop tumor vasculature.
