OBJECTIVES: In response to increasing numbers of states in the US that test newborn babies for cystic fibrosis (CF), the Newborn Screening Quality Assurance Programme initiated a pilot proficiency testing programme for immunoreactive trypsinogen (IRT), the biomarker for CF.
