Most patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) express PML-RAR alpha, the fusion product of t(15;17)(q22;q11.2). Transgenic mice expressing PML-RAR alpha develop APL with long latency, low penetrance, and acquired cytogenetic abnormalities.
