CONCLUSIONS: The fact that pseudohypoaldosteronism type 1 (PHA-1) patients with a defect in the alpha subunit of epithelial sodium channels (ENaC) in the cochlea have normal hearing suggests compensation by alternative sodium transport mechanisms.
