The Escherichia coli BglF protein, a permease of the phosphoenolpyruvate-dependent phosphotransferase system, catalyzes transport and phosphorylation of beta-glucosides. In addition, BglF regulates bgl operon expression by controlling the activity of the transcriptional regulator BglG via reversible phosphorylation.
