P-glycoprotein (pgp), a membrane efflux pump, is recognized to have an anti-apoptotic function. Internal tandem duplications (ITDs) of the Fms-like tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3) receptor are the most common mutations in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML).
