Metallothionein (MT) is a small sulfhydryl-rich protein whose levels are elevated by various inducers of organelle stresses, such as nuclear stress (cisplatin), mitochondrial stress (antimycin A, 2,4-dinitrophenol) and lysosomal stress (paraquat).
