Multidrug resistance (MDR) mediated by the overexpression of drug efflux protein P-glycoprotein (P-gp) is one of the major obstacles to successful cancer chemotherapy. P-gp acts as an energy-dependent drug efflux pump, reducing the intracellular concentration of structurally unrelated drugs.
