The vacuole/lysosome of the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae is actively divided between mother and daughter cells. Vacuole inheritance initiates early in the cell cycle and ends in G2, just prior to nuclear migration. The process begins with a portion of the vacuole extending into the emerging bud.
