Rhodopsin genes in most vertebrate species, with the exception of teleost fishes, contain introns. Despite differences in the gene structure, similar regulatory motifs have been identified in fish, amphibian and mammalian rhodopsin promoters, suggesting that rhodopsin gene regulation may be conserved in vertebrates.
