To create immortal mesenchymal cell lines, we transduced primary human bone marrow mesenchymal cells with telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT). TERT+ mesenchymal cells continued to grow for > 2 years; parallel TERT- cultures underwent senescence after 15 weeks.
