The 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase is a rate-limiting enzyme in the mevalonate biochemical pathway and HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins) show toxicity for certain tumors, including acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
