The pathogenesis of Parkinsons disease (PD) is currently unknown. Environmental and genetic factors might contribute to the neurodegenerative process. Genetic mapping approaches in rare familial cases with autosomal recessive and autosomal dominant inheritance of PD suggest wide genetic heterogeneity of the disease.
