Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) is a highly conserved hormone. Targeted disruption of the PACAP gene has revealed a role for this peptide in lipid metabolism, carbohydrate metabolism, and the sympathetic response to insulin stress.
