Shiga toxin producing-Escherichia coli (STEC), an important emerging foodborne pathogen, has been associated with bloody and non-bloody diarrhea, hemorrhagic colitis, hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura.
