A Cu, Zn-superoxide dismutase gene ( sod1+) deletion mutant of fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe was constructed and its properties were investigated. Superoxide dismutase activity was not detected in the mutant on activity staining of polyacrylamide gels.
