BACKGROUND: A polymorphism (G to A transition) in intron 13 of the mitochondrial enzyme monoamine oxidase B (MAOB) gene may modify, alone or by interacting with the catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT(LL)) genotype (low enzymatic activity), the risk of idiopathic PD.
