Corneodesmosomes, the modified desmosomes of the uppermost layers of the epidermis, play an important role in corneocyte cohesion. Corneodesmosin is a secreted glycoprotein located in the corneodesmosomal core and covalently linked to the cornified envelope of corneocytes.
