X-linked agammglobulinemia (XLA) is a ptototypical humoral immunodeficiency caused by mutations in the gene coding for Bruton tyrosine kinase (BTK). The genetic defect in XLA impairs early B cell development resulting in marked reduction of mature B cells in the blood.
