The isolation of drug-resistant strains of herpesviruses, including Herpes Simplex Virus type I (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2), Varicella-Zoster Virus (VZV), and cytomegalovirus (CMV), has been reported with increasing frequency in immunocompromised patients and is a matter of major concern.
