Cycloartenol synthase converts oxidosqualene to the pentacyclic sterol precursor cycloartenol. An Arabidopsis thaliana cycloartenol synthase Ile481Val mutant was previously shown to produce lanosterol and parkeol in addition to its native product cycloartenol.
