A novel nucleoside phosphorylation process using the food additive pyrophosphate as the phosphate source was investigated. The Morganella morganii gene encoding a selective nucleoside pyrophosphate phosphotransferase was cloned. It was identical to the M. morganii PhoC acid phosphatase gene.
