The trifunctional enzyme comprises three consecutive steps in the mitochondrial beta-oxidation of long-chain acyl-CoA esters: 2-enoyl-CoA hydratase, 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase and 3-ketoacyl-CoA thiolase.
