Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS) is an X-linked recessive disorder characterized by thrombocytopenia, eczema, and a progressive deterioration of immune function. WAS is caused by mutations in an intracellular protein, WASP, that is involved in signal transduction and regulation of actin cytoskeleton rearrangement.
