The aim of this study was to test previous hypotheses of association between schizophrenia and human leukocyte antigen (HLA) specificities A9 (A23/24), DR4, and allele DQbeta1*0602. Using sequence-specific oligonucleotide probes, 256 familial schizophrenic patients and 261 unrelated controls were genotyped at polymorphisms for HLA-A, DRbeta1, and DQbeta1 loci.
