Daily cotrimoxazole (TMP/SXT) prophylaxis is part of the HIV treatment package for all new HIV-infected individuals in Uganda. Although this treatment has shown reduced morbidity and mortality in HIV, it remains controversial due to its contribution to developing antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
