We propose that in severely ill patients the SARS-CoV-2 virus expropriates an anomalous variant of clotting. This clotting variant produces a “bloodstream blizzard” of short-chain, soluble, fibrin molecules. If clotting continues, additional polymerization occurs and the molecular chains lengthen.
