Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by abnormal amyloid beta (Aβ) plaques and hyperphosphorylated tau in the brain. Aβ plaques precede cognitive impairments and can be detected through amyloid-PET or in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).
