Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a chronic skin disease caused by Leishmania parasites and in Sri Lanka, CL is caused by L. donovani. Pentavalent antimonials (e.g. sodium stibogluconate; SSG) are first line drugs for CL, despite protracted and painful treatment regimens.
