A quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) assay was developed, based on a TaqMan probe, to detect and quantify a virulence plasmid harbored by the bacterium Vibrio parahaemolyticus which can cause acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND).
