Acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND) outbreaks in cultured shrimps were identified in Zhangpu, China. One Vibrio parahaemolyticus strain PB1937 was isolated from the cultured shrimps and was confirmed as a causative agent of the AHPND outbreak by employing Koch’s four postulates. Challenge tests with 10⁶ cells ml⁻¹ of strain PB1937 caused 100% mortality of shrimps, indicating it had sufficient virulence...
